Dr Venter will facilitate the process that will allow patients to develop their own coping mechanisms enabling them to deal with the stresses of everyday life.
She sees children, adults, couples, as well as families, and groups for therapy. Cases seen on a regular basis at her practice varies from general life difficulties and adjustment issues for example; work related issues, bereavement, relationship issues, stage of life issues, traumatic experiences and school related issues to more severe pathology which include Addictions (including sex, pornography and masturbation), Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Conversion Disorders and Sexual dysfunction etc. Her interest fields are very broad which allows her to sharpen her diagnostic and therapeutic skills in various areas through extensive reading and continued professional development.
She has extensive experience in psychometric assessments. Assessments done on a regular basis include: IQ, school, personality, career and diagnostic assessments.
Dr. Cathrin Venter is responsible for the management of a very successful full time practice in Port Shepstone. An eclectic approach is used depending on the patient's needs. Dr Venter has extensive experience in different psychotherapeutic treatment models, including Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT, Behavior Therapy, Structured and Unstructured Play Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Rational Emotive Couple's Therapy, Human Modeling, Group Therapy, Philophonetics and various Relaxation Therapy techniques.
She is always keen to expand on her knowledge and skills to accommodate and treat patients from different cultural backgrounds appropriately. She has successfully completed a PhD in community psychology.
